Tally theme documentation

Tally: a Shopify theme for hardware and trade-supply stores

Status: Tally is not yet on the Shopify Theme Store and is not for sale. Submission is in preparation. Version 0.2.0 has passed Shopify Theme Check with no offenses, but has not yet been tested on a live store, so details below may change after that testing.

About Tally

Tally is an Online Store 2.0 theme for merchants who sell hardware, tools, parts and trade supplies, including to business buyers. It is built from Shopify's Skeleton theme (MIT licence) and made by Venture Ace. It focuses on three things such stores need: filtering by specification, showing quantity pricing, and ordering a whole parts list at once.

Features

Parts list order page

A section that lets a buyer paste one part per line (the SKU, then the quantity) and add everything to the cart in one step. Each SKU is looked up through the store's own search suggestions and product data, so no app is needed. Lines that cannot be read, SKUs that match nothing and sold-out items are flagged per line. Quantity rules (minimum and increment) on a variant are respected. The merchant sets the most lines allowed per order (default 40). A page template, page.parts-list, is included.

Specification table

A product-page section that lists the product's metafields in one namespace (default specs) as a table of specification and value. It shows nothing when the product has no such metafields.

Quantity pricing table

A product-page section that shows Shopify's native quantity price breaks and quantity rules (minimum, increment, maximum) for each variant. It is hidden when the product has none configured. Quantity inputs on the product page and in the cart follow the quantity rule. Shopify's quantity rules and price breaks are managed in the Shopify admin (they are part of Shopify's B2B tools, whose availability depends on your Shopify plan).

Collection and search filters

A filter and sort form on collection and search pages. It shows the storefront filters you have set up in Shopify's Search and Discovery settings (price range, availability, product type, vendor, options and metafield filters, as Shopify provides them) plus sort options. It works without JavaScript.

Product cards, product page and cart

Product cards and the cart table show the SKU. The product page is made of blocks you can reorder: title, price, SKU, description, variant picker, quantity selector, buy buttons (with an option for dynamic checkout buttons), Custom Liquid, and app blocks. The cart page has an optional order note.

Home page sections

Hero, featured collection, category grid, and a trade and bulk callout, plus a Custom Liquid section.

Header and footer

The footer can show payment icons, a newsletter signup, and country and language selectors, each switchable. The header takes a menu and a customer account menu.

Templates

JSON templates for the home page, product, collection, collections list, search, cart, blog, article, page, contact page, parts list page, 404 and password page. The gift card template is Liquid.

Accessibility

Skip link, labelled navigation landmarks and cart link, visible focus ring, and colour defaults chosen for contrast. Formal Lighthouse scores are not yet measured.

Setup guide

Duplicate your current theme first (Online Store, Themes, Actions, Duplicate) so you can always go back.

  1. Add the theme and open the theme editor (Customize).
  2. Set colours, fonts and layout under Theme settings (see below).
  3. Set menus. In the Header section choose your main menu. In the Footer section choose a footer menu. On the home page, choose a menu for the Category grid.
  4. Home page. Edit the Hero (image, overlay, heading, text, button), pick a collection for Featured collection, and edit the Trade and bulk callout text. Leave a field empty to use the built-in wording.
  5. Specification table. In Settings, Custom data, Products, add metafield definitions in the namespace specs (for example specs.thread_size). Fill them in on each product. They appear on the product page automatically. To use another namespace, change the setting on the Product specs section.
  6. Quantity pricing. Set quantity rules and price breaks in Shopify admin where your plan supports them. The Quantity breaks section shows them. If none are set, the section stays hidden.
  7. Filters. Install and set up Shopify's Search and Discovery app (free, from Shopify) and choose which filters to show. They appear on collection and search pages. To filter on specifications, add the metafield as a filter there.
  8. Parts list page. Create a page in Online Store, Pages, and choose the template page.parts-list. Add it to your menu.
  9. Contact page. Create a page with the template page.contact.
  10. Footer. Choose which of payment icons, newsletter and country and language selectors to show.

FAQ

Can I buy Tally now?

No. It is not on the Theme Store and not for sale. Submission is in preparation.

Does Tally need any apps?

No app is needed for the parts list page, specification table or quantity pricing table. Filters use Shopify's own storefront filtering, which you configure in the Search and Discovery app.

Why is my quantity pricing table not showing?

It only appears when quantity rules or price breaks are set for the variant in Shopify admin. Check that your Shopify plan supports them.

Why is my specification table empty?

It lists metafields in one namespace, specs by default. Check the metafield namespace and that the product has values.

A SKU on the parts list page says "No product with this SKU".

The lookup uses the store's search suggestions and then matches the SKU exactly on the product's variants. Check the SKU is spelled exactly as in the admin, and the product is published to the Online Store.

Can I edit the theme code?

Yes, but duplicate your theme first. Custom code changes are not covered by support, and you may want to hire a Shopify Partner for custom work.

What is your support policy?

We answer theme questions and fix theme bugs, and reply to support requests within two business days. Customisation work is separate and not included in the theme price.
